I have seen the trailer, have I basically seen the whole film?

The trailer gave away WAYY too much of the plot...like seriously... I felt like I saw the whole movie. I am sure there is slightly more detail, but for example, showing that the woman survived the tsunami, bit of a spoiler....

Sort of. But it's not about the tsunami nor the turtle twist that's sort of spoiled. It's about the subtle scenes of everyday life on the island - and, as indicated by one of the quotes, about life. The circle of life.

And that's not something you can spoil (although I'd also have preferred the trailer didn't show as much).

yeah same here.
It gave away a tat too much.
Must be because the film itself is slow paced.
But still it will be a beautiful movie.

What plot? This movie is not about any such thing as "plot". It's about contemplation, nature, life and death, family, and many more. There are no dialogues in this movie, everything is said through visuals, so it's really not at all about a plot. You've seen nothing of the movie in this trailer.

It's not a movie about survival, it's not "Cast Away", it's about humanity in general, with a part of supernatural, something bigger than us.

The tsunami scene is very short also, 10 minutes top (from the wave coming to them going back to normal), it's far from being a main point in the movie, and it serves to express how little we are compared to the elements.

To appreciate this movie, you have to accept that not everything will be answered, you have to make up your mind by yourself and accept to be carried by the movie, its music and its pace.

It's more an experience than anything else.

Exactly! For me it was like a lovely roller-coaster ride, but in the dreamy clouds and waves instead of jolting metal rails, no masterpiece, but quite lovely.

***So I've seen 4 movies/wk in theatre for a 1/4 century, call me crazy?**

Stands in front of a tsunami, "YOU SHALL NOT PA-"... Gets obliterated.

But fantasy told me it could happen! :C

reply

No. The film is not about punctual events, but a state of mind. Choose a rainy afternoon, when you feel dreamy, and just enjoy the calm ride, like a roller-coaster built on clouds instead of metal jolting rails.

*imagines a roller coaster built on clouds* AHHHHHHH!!!! THE CLOUDS CAN'T SUPPORT ME I'M FALLING TO MY DOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

Exactly the reason why I never watch trailers...

Well, the film's simplicity is almost meditative in nature, and such meditative feeling only can really kick in if you see it on the big screen. But the trailer does reveal too much of the plot.
