The turtle

So from what I've read or heard, the red turtle *possible spoiler alert* (though I've only seen the trailer) seeks to thwart the main character's attempts to leave the island each time he does so? Which brings up the question, why does the main character want to leave? I guess maybe it's a taken for granted question of trapped on an island films, which a full viewing of the movie may answer. But it's like nature is pushing him back to the island for some reason, a la Chuck in "Cast Away", and we later see (which I've only learned from the trailer, so it's not much of a spoiler alert) that he's met a wife and fathered a child. So it was a good thing that he remain on the island, and this turtle pushed him to somewhere better than trying to escape the island. This is my reading from watching the trailer.
