Moana for the artsy crowd

No, not at all. I am kind of part of the artsy crowd of animation and I would never make this comparison. The Red Turtle is a pure visual piece while Moana is a musical, nothing to compare as they have two very different purposes.

No, they appear to be very different both in style and tone.

They kinda sorta don't have anything in common... other than there's an ocean in both movies.

It has far more in common with "Castaway"... if Tom Hanks had gotten down and dirty with Wilson.

Nah, I'd say it's more "Castaway" for the artsy crowd.
