no tears at the end for me...

...because Gibson and kid were joke characters. The writers put far too many comedic lines into the dialogue, along with cutesi banter and strained reaction shots. I was never convinced that the daughter was only 17, and her basic dishonesty and selfishness made her nothing but a hot air balloon. The relationship wasn't realistic at all, and therefore all the escapades and gang-chases-and-danger were unengaging, although well choreographed and filmed. If a screenplay intends to put your heart in your mouth with clenching suspense and driven, pounding action, it better make damn sure that the characters are spot-on believable. Which the script failed to do, with the outcome that by the end of the story, I still didn't give a damn about the two characters or their relationship.

I thought her dishonesty and selfishness were exactly spot on in terms of how kids are today. The character's lack of common sense and her stupidity made the movie a little more realistic and grounded for me. And despite all of that her dad put up with all of it and saved her life which is exactly what a father is supposed to do. The movie was full of cliches but I found it very enjoyable. I thought it was well written and the action scenes weren't a cgi fest. The ending where he has the last conversation with his daughter was very moving.
