How would this make you feel...?

Based on the things we've heard about Phantasm V and what we've seen in the original film, what if Ravager essentially erases the events of P1-4, turning them into a dream, similar to what Mike experienced in part one?

reply

The premise of the series is to make it difficult to distinguish what is a dream and what's reality.

To answer your question though, I'd hate that. I always hate it when the events of a movie are revealed to be nothing more than a dream. It's not only stupid, but makes the movie feel irrelevant.

reply

Is that how you felt after Phantasm 1?

reply

Don't see how it's possible to feel that way after Phantasm 1 due to it's ambiguous ending which in the end doesn't really clarify whether it was a dream or not.

reply

Well... It's sort of definitive, is it not? Reggie tells Mike that Jody dies in a car wreck, contrary to what we saw at the end of the film.

Therefore, the three of them were never battling the Tall Man.

Even the beginning of part 2 (Michael getting attacked and Reggie's house blowing up) is labeled a dream by Reggie when he picks Mike from the mental hospital.

On the way back to Reggie's, his house blows up like the beginning of the film (The dream).

I'd have mixed feelings if they did that with Phantasm V. Mostly because it was already done in Phantasm 1. It'd feel like a cop out, because we have this entire saga that didn't even happen.

Phantasm II did that in the beginning which made sense, but it didn't during the end of the film. I don't remember contradictory stuff happening (in the same fashion) in P3 or P4 either (specifically about events occurring in the film or not occurring).

This almost happened with the Dementia Reg scenario.

What if... the more the characters die in the alternate dimensions the more revealing which dimension is the real dimension? It was a closure for ONE character in one possible dimension... but they'd need to dig deep and bury him far away from where the Tall Man can't find him. They should have included a funeral scene of some sort. Where they secretly bury Reggie without the Nursing Home staff seeing where they bury him. That could have been a good extra bit of plot. About how they bury their dead with the Tall Man's goons everywhere, without him being reanimated! I liked the movie ok, but there could have been so much more that could have been... done.

Sounds brilliant. I think even they know they could have done more. I think it all comes down to cost. I'm sure most of the people involved with this film worked for pennies or free. It took 8 years to put this film together because David had to go direct Transformers, Don had to go direct John Dies at the End, then Michael was busy, and Kat Lester is a popular performer and so is Bill. It was all about getting everyone together which sounds like it was next to impossible. I'm sure if these people were getting a hefty pay check they could have parted with their day jobs, but since they likely didn't get anything, this is the best they could do.
