Very Disappointed. Messy/Confusing Film.

😢 As a huge fan of the series, I can't help but feel disappointed after just watching Phantasm: Ravager. The movie was just so messy and seemed like it was made by an amateur. After finishing it, I said to myself, "What did I just watch?" Did Don Coscarelli ever say why he didn't direct this one?

Phantasm: Ravager's story is very confusing and ends on another cliffhanger with no closure. Honestly, what the hell happened in this movie? It's sad because Angus has passed away and the filmmakers must of known this would be the last hoorah. Just kind of sucks to be let down like this. I guess we can always go back and enjoy the greatness of Part 1 and 2. 😃

I was led to believe it was all a dream/delusion in Reggie's mind caused by the deaths of his wife and daughter.

The first apparently as they were dead before the events of that movie or something.

The reason I came up with this is because of Reggie's big talk with the Tall Man and how the Tall Man said he could give him his wife and daughter but refused to give him Mike and Jody. This to me was Reggie's inner subconscious or perhaps a talk with "death" itself....as Reggie was holding onto life and near death the entire movie and if he gave in he could be with his wife and daughter forever and Mike and Jody weren't an option because they were still alive and always have been.

We all are...the post credits scene refutes my theory but I think we're supposed to just never know for sure one way or another.

I believe the same thing as OP.

The Tall Man just meant that there's a dimension where Reggie's wife and daughter are still alive, and the Tall Man has access to that dimension. I'm pretty sure, anyways, because the multiverse thing was such a big part of this movie's (jumbled) plot.

The complete story is a delusion created by Reggie's dementia.

You can't palm off a second-rater on me. You gotta remember I was in the pink!

I was disappointed as well... What really sucks is that so many individual scenes in the film could have been so much better with different directorial choices and a better-written script. As for the cliffhanger ending, we probably should have been expecting that with this series... Closure was never going to be given to us, unless that "Phantasm's End" script had an actual ending (I haven't read it yet).

I'm a HUGE fan of the series and have met all the cast in person, including Don Coscarelli twice. I've paid hundreds for autographs, photos, etc.... That being said, I was almost brought to tears when I watched Ravager, not in a good way though; I was brought to tears because Ravager was just total crap from start to finish. The new characters introduced were unnecessary and ridiculous. The Cuda theft scene at the beginning was embarrassing and childish..... I could on.... Just a total disappointment. I also wanna tell you that Don DOES NOT care about the "Phans". He can hardly keep from laughing in your face when you tell him how much the Phantasm series means to you. What a total waste!

get the bluray, the commentary might explain the movie to you a little better.

It's explained that there are 3 alternate timelines we are following. when the reg we see from the start of the film and old Reg both enter through the gateways at the same time they somewhat merge. When the Reg we have been following from part 4 wakes up on that table he also merges. notice his head is lying between a machine that has dimensional gateways on them. it's here that all 3 Reggies keep jumping from one reality to another. In one reality Reggie died, while the other Reggies keep on living.

as for the filmmakers knowing this was the last hoorah, actually it was Angus who knew. he was the one that helped to make it work. he loved the script.
