The side pony tails annoyed me, I don't know why but I couldn't stop staring at them every time meryl came on.

Not sure what the point of was. I took it as she was lost back in the late 70's -early 80's channeling Stevie Nicks and/or early Madonna. What was even more distracting was that blue eye shadow. Holy crap.

They were a nice touch, the woman being pretty much a failure as a recording artist, trying to hang on to the dream.

They were a little distracting at first, as were the tattoos (that horrible don't tread on me, ugh!) but Streep ends up eventually getting me so into her charater that I start to overlook those things.

I don't remember Meryl Streep having side ponytails. I remember a couple of braids.
