Meryl Streep -Great Actress -Mediocre Singer

She was pretty good in Into the Woods and that was recently. Here it's a deep, rasping and caterwauling attempt at singing. I just don't understand why she gave Ricki such a harsh voice. I didn't catch it mentioned that she had given up smoking....

I thought the singing in Postcards from the Edge was ok...

She was barley faking it here.

Terrible movie too. Streep really tried to flesh Ricki out and give the role some nuance but you can't get 10 lbs of s#*^ in a 5 lbs bag.

Not taking about her acting. She is beyond talented. Jessica Lange and Russell Crowe are a few who is just a spectacular actor but a ehh, so-so singer yet still takes roles where it's required.

I'm watching it right now and came here immediately after her ridiculous attempt to sing "rock and roll". I'm surprised the director thought that's how it should be portrayed,I was cringing. I think it's a disservice to the truly talented musicians who are making a living playing in cover bands. I don't know of a bar that would employ such a band with that mediocre of a singer as their house band. It was cheesy. As if Rick Springfield would be a side man, he can play and sing but he's going join an outfit with her as the centerpiece? I don't see it.

One would think a so-called green wedding would have bridesmaids' dresses that could be worn again! Or dress them in overalls so they could go plant their invitations. Those bridesmaid's dresses were hideous one-use-toss-out dresses.

Agree. Honestly, her character wasn't very likeable. Even at the end, flies her entire dive bar band out to play at a wedding, and they at first make the bride out to be the bad person, because she rightfully so looks pissed off. Just so many things wrong with this movie.

I agree. She can sing, but a great singer? Not so much. Sadly, like most of us, her voice gets weaker with age. I stick to singing in the car and can testify to the fact that I can't hit the notes I used to. Even her speaking voice was weird in this movie and I found it really annoying.

But...more power to the people who sing not because they're great but because they love it. We don't have to listen.
