How did Meryl Streep get cast in a singing role after Mama Mia?

Luckily Pierce Brosnan wasn't available for this one

Another bitter jealous moron. Can we hear you sing please?

You must be tone deaf because Meryl sure is. She is a wonderful actress, maybe the best ever! But she is an awful singer. And that is okay. She is megarich & famous and has tons of Oscars. Don't be afraid to criticize her. She can afford it.

Mamma Mia doesn't show the range of Meryl's singing talent. She did much better in Postcards from the Edge.

reply

She did sound good in Postcards, but those were country-flavored torch songs.

The woman cannot sing rock to save her life. Absolutely horrible. Cringe-inducing. Ruined the movie. She should hide in shame for the rest of her life.

Seriously.

reply

It seems that she took notice of the MAMMA MIA criticism, because her singing skills got so much better (singing lessons, perhaps?). Not just in this movie but also INTO THE WOODS.

reply

Because she can sing, you asshat.

reply

Meryl is a pretty decent singer actually.

reply

She was incredible in Mamma Mia!, fantastic in Into the Woods, and terrific in this.

reply

Meryl Streep was superb singing in Postcards From The Edge. I haven't seen Mamma Mia yet but she was more than fine in this movie and not everyone needs to be Barbra Streisand. Thankfully record labels recognized the need for diversity early on.

reply

Couldn't agree more. :D

She also sings in "Prairie Home Companion" quite a bit and quite well actually.

She's bringing it back in her new film "Florence Foster Jenkins" coming out in May 2016, although some say not in a good way, she portrays a New York heiress who became an opera singer notorious for her bad singing skills.

Surprisingly for an actress of her talent, when she sings she has no projection or diaphragm support at all. Really horrible singer.

YEAH---JEALOUS.

reply

Yes! Meryl has a lovely voice and originally was trained in classical and operatic voice. I can't believe that anyone says she doesn't have a great voice. Must be tone deaf or just jealous. MAmma Mia and Into The Woods are just two examples of how she sings beautifully. AND she's a terrific actress.

reply

Ditto.
How it's possible to have heard her "Winner Takes It All" or "Stay With Me" or "Last Midnight" or any of the other songs from those two, and then claim she doesn't have a great voice...I have no idea.
