Am watching it on Starz right now. Was a little boring in the beginning but now I'm enjoying it.
shareIt's more for an older audience. A following? From reading a lot of the comments it seems people are unhappy she wasn't playing a 'rock star', just a singer who only had one album her whole career, and she was not exciting, just vaguely unlikable.
I sympathized with Ricki, but most people don't, IMO.

I love this movie. I've seen it 4 times since it was released on cable. I don't really know why, but I relate to this movie in some way. It makes me cry in several places. It's my kind of movie.
shareI agree. The reviews and IMDB comments made me go into the movie with NO enthusiasm and I absolutely loved it. Meryl was terrific and it was nice to see her and Kevin Kline back together again. Meryl had terrific chemistry with both Kline and Rick Springfield.
It made me cry, too.
It's an anti-millenial film, ergo the hate. Otherwise, not bad with some very strong scenes and performances and a good ending (or mending?).
