What??????

At this point I know Disney is ordering sequels out of pixar and allowing them less original content. But I thought Cars II flopped and this is still happening?? Unless Disney can market this towards a younger audience I don't this will make it. Why can't Pixar be allowed as much freedom as it deserves??

reply

The Cars franchise makes many, many billions from merchandise. The franchise cannot flop; even if a film does. However, Cars 2 made over $550 million on a $200 million budget. It did well enough.

reply

Yea you're right, I didn't really think about that. I just wish pixar would be allowed more original content like they were say ten years ago.
Maybe using you're same logic that may mean Planes is unkillable as well, and I actually think I heard both of those movies bombed.

reply

The first Planes made 4.5x its budget, and the second one 3x, before merchandise sales. For a bar to compare to, usually a movie is considered a flop if it makes under 2x its budget.

reply

Because it was gobbled up by Disney....they don't care about quality they just want product...more and more product. Kids will buy the t-shirt, toys and lunchboxes whether the films are actually any good or not....just look at Planes....
I'm sure they will demand sequels from the complete pixar library...

reply

Oh god. Looks like it won't be too long before A Bugs Life 2 comes out.

reply

Don't blame Disney. This is all Pixar, a studio I am losing my patience with.

reply

Hey, Kiddo... Have you forgotten that Disney bought Pixar?
So it's all Disney's fault, and the blame is totally for Disney.

reply

No it's not. Pixar is still allowed to run their studio the way they want without being bothered by Disney.

reply

Nope. They are bound by the same financial decisions.

reply

Disney is not interfering with Pixar. It has been mentioned in several articles and interviews.

reply

Seems like all the "2"s are rushed to the screen and blow chunks. Toy Story 2, Cars 2, etc. Hopefully this movie will rebound like Toy Story 3.

reply

Spoilers: it won't.

reply

Toy Story 2 is perfection.

reply

Cars 2 actually did well at the box office.

The villainy you teach me I will execute-and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.
