that by "everything will change," they mean this whole time it's just been a little kid (played by Owen Wilson. Like, think Owen Wilson, but in overalls and one of those spinny hats or whatever kids wear) imagining that his cars are sentient. He imagines himself as the main one, of course. Hence why they share the same voice. We find all of this out in the beginning though, and the rest of the movie is Owen Wilson trying to process the fact that his toy cars (there could be a shout out to Toy Story) do not, in fact, have lives of their own.
