Out Of All The New Nick Shows, This One's Probably The Most Decent

I miss Victorious (forever will it be the best Nick show in my opinion), and we all know that since that show was cancelled, Nickelodeon has gone downhill. My opinion on all the five Nick sitcoms (Bella and the Bulldogs, Every Witch Way, The Thundermans, Make It Pop!, this one):

Bella and the Bulldogs: Pretty stupid and pointless an idea really. It's just an excuse to put gender stereotypes in a drama-filled situation (on a sports team). And I honestly thought Haley Tju was much better when she played Eileen Miller in the reptile club election episode of Jessie.

Every Witch Way: Boo. I loathe it with a passion. It's just a shameless rip-off of Wizards of Waverly Place, an older Disney show that's equally unwatchable. In both these shows, the main characters are spoiled brats who are constantly resorting to the use of magic to get whatever stupid thing they want, which I know might not bother some people, but as a Protestant Christian, it bothers me. Bottom line: NEXT!

The Thundermans: I just don't like it. I don't know, it revolves around superheroes, but it's never about them saving the day. Teen Titans GO! has this same problem, except Teen Titans GO! is worse. I seriously can't stand Nora either, I can't put my finger on it but she just irritates me. I also totally flipped out at the season finale in which a new baby is born, and there were no signs in any of the recent episodes that the mom was pregnant. I pretty much started disliking it at that point.

Make It Pop!: WHAT THE HECK IS THIS SHOW?!?!?! I hate it.

And then there's Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn: Now this is the only one of these Nick shows that I truly enjoy. Ricky is my favorite. He's just so enjoyable, and Casey Simpson is a very great actor for his age. My only problem with this show is I just can't stand Dicky. He's pretty much a simplified version of Luke from Jessie (another show that I like, but on Disney Channel), I just don't like him.

So now the question: Which one of these newer Nick shows do you think is the most decent and why?

Victorious was a fun show. Dan Schneider has always been very good at getting his adolescent characters away from their parents so that they could have their own storylines. And the adults that he does populate his shows with (Spencer, Sykowitz sp?) are never dumb or buffoons but are unique and funny. That being said, I'm less than impressed by Henry Danger.

Bella is okay when it's just middle school kids dealing with middle school stuff such as liking boys/girls, passing tests etc. When it deals with football it's bad. Now I realize that for most of history females have been seen as property, have had minimal rights and been abused. But the pendulum has swung too far the other direction now. In these shows it's not enough to show that girls can do stuff too and be talented. No, they have to make the boys dumb, worthless, weak idiots who can't even tie their own shoes without the help of a girl.

Ever Witch Way looks like it was shot on videotape in the 1980s. I haven't given it more than a 2 minute try.

Thundermanns? Yeah, like I'm supposed to believe that the fat, dorky dude is a superhero. Again, the doofus male can't function without his female counterpart. But at least make the super hero guy look like he was at least a superhero at some point. Not fat and balding. Oh, and what's with all the fat dudes on TV having hot wives? This has been going on for several years now.

Most I've seen of Make It Pop is when it's going off and something that I'm about to watch is coming on.

Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn is cute. The boys need to be more guyish though. It seems in every show that they have the same old tropes; the smart one, the nerdy one (sometimes the same as the smart one), the dumb one and the 'rebel'. How 'bout just making them all guys who do and like guy things. Oh and btw, brothers get in fights with each other. And I'm not just talking slap fights. Dawn is adorable, though, and seems to carry the show when it's just the quads in a scene. She appears to be the best actor of the kids.

Oh. I know this is off-topic but what do you think of Disney Channel's Jessie, and do you think a crossover between Victorious and Jessie would've been cool, despite being on separate channels.

reply

Jessie's okay. I don't think a crossover would've worked because Victorious is on another level. The direction, acting and writing in Victorious was so much better than Jessie is. The directing on Jessie seems simplistic and ham handed.

This response was long overdue, but I guess I can't argue with that logic.

Well I never liked Victorious, then again I dislike Dan Schneider shows( Henry Danger been the only exception) so... anyway:
1. The Thundermans- My favorite Nick sitcom right now, very funny. I just wished we could see more of their superhero side like we did in the S2 finale...but still my favorite.

2. Henry Danger- like I said, this is the only DS show I like . I only wish that they either tone down or get rid off the little sister. She's awful.

3. Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn- I love this show, its simple but it works. My favorite character is Ricky, he makes the programme IMO Also the parents are not stupid ( well not much) compared to other Nick/Disney sitcoms.

4. Bella & the Bulldogs- Really good so far, the premise is a bit unrealistic ( I think Bella would get demolished in a real football field) but it doesn't bother me.

Too early to tell:
Make it Pop- I enjoyed the first episode but I'm going to wait until the season its over to binge watch it, the scheduling of this show is a problem for me.

I find it interesting that is the only Dan Schneider show that you like. It's probably his most traditional show. My favorite show he did was Zoey 101 because it was different. It was a single camera show with no laugh track or live audience. It opens up the show so much more.

Of course I like Jessie. :)

I love Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, and Dawn. My favorite Nick show right now.

Next up I like The Thundermans and Henry Danger. You can keep the rest.

The excuse you have for discrediting Thundermans doesn't make sense because you're ignoring their in-universe roles. They are not normal-ordinary people, so you can't judge them by the normal human biology. The show explained it in that episode and also the following episode about Superheroes pregnancy and birth being too fast. So, it's not like they made a mistake or it was a bad writing or anything. That's how it works in their world. Superhero pregnancies in their universe happen within minutes and the babies have growth spurts until a certain age. If you don't understand scifi or in-universe rules, then you have a problem.

Thundermans has now been focusing on the superhero side since season 2 finale through season 3 and 4. I think they just took time to get there.

I agree NRDD is one of the best shows on the network. It's my second favorite after the Thundermans. The writing is pure gold compared to the Dan Schneider shows on nick.

The acting on Henry Danger and Game Shakers makes me cringe. It's so bad and annoying. And their stories are so stupid.

The current Dan Schneider shows on a departure from what he usually does. They are directed at a younger audience than he usually goes for. The actors are younger too. I wonder if this was a directive from the network.
