A Perfect World with Kevin Costner was a great film, is this a remake?

Don't tell me "John" ends up getting shot and the boy crys?

It does remind A Perfect World a bit, but it's not a ripoff.

Nope! I was so worried about that but it's kinda more like what would have happened if APW hadn't ended in that horrible moment and had another ten minutes of the boy on his own continuing his journey.

I sat with dread in my stomach the while time watching this because APW got ingrained into my brain when I was a kid (one film I'll never forgive my parents' leinency for, although it is a beautiful film), but here with LitS we have a bit more closure than we ever got with APW. ---- okay from what I remember of APW; I admittedly refuse to rewatch it
