Rogers

In this movie, Rogers seems to be the most unpleasant character of them all, murdering by cold blood and beating his wife. I don't recall him as that bad in the book. I wonder why they made him to such a brute in this movie.

Noah Taylor the actor who played Rogers also played an unpleasant character called Locke in 'Game of Thrones'. So he's got form.

Because the noose was tight around her neck. It's incredibly hard to pull a tightened noose off yourself, not least because your chin is in the way. It's not like being strangled from someone directly behind you, it's pulling upwards and essentially crushing your windpipe. Add the fact that she was struggling to keep balanced on the chair and the slightest movement could have unbalanced her, not to mention it meant having pretty much no leverage to adjust the rope, all she could do was hope to be cut down. If the chair hadn't fallen, she would have managed it fine but she was a goner the moment the chair went over.
