I guess I am dumb

I kinda get the whole justice thing. But I really missed something about the whole show. Who are the Owens? Why did everyone have a justifaction to die? Because they did something bad? Just lost I guess.

I want my 4 hours back!

Were you able to enjoy it uninterrupted, no distractions? If you enjoyed the setting and characters, you could watch it again and see the mystery unfold better the second viewing perhaps. Some bits confused me and I'm still discovering interesting aspects about the whole thing. But it pays to pay attention.

The characters have all been guilty of causing somebody's death and getting away with it. They are being targeted by a sadistic vigilante. The "Owens" are the supposed hosts that invited the characters to the island, but it becomes clear fairly soon that they don't exist and were invented by the vigilante to lure the characters into the trap. I won't give away any more than that.

There's even some confusion between a couple of the smarter guests once they figure out the Owens are not real people. There's a theory that someone else is hiding on the island committing all these murders, "hunting" them. And there's a theory that it's one of the actual guests, the choices for that narrow down as various guests are killed off.

I believe this story is the origin of the "guests at a party being killed" trope. It's morbid but very well done.

I was distracted quite a bit throughout the movie. I may give it another look.

Thanks for your replies.

You should read the book. Everything becomes clear.

Why should he read the book? It's a movie's job to be self-explanatory. Which, in this case, I thought it was.

reply

Well I haven't seen the movie yet. I pre-ordered it and it is set to arrive on April 19th. I did read the book, therefore it's always good to read the book anyway.

I had to read the book after watching this, as I'd heard it explains more. Christie's introduction (as I recall) states that she had to write the epilogue to tie everything up. The TV was good, though there were a lot of unanswered questions.
