Too many Vera flashbacks

Anyone feel they went overboard with the Vera flashbacks? She probably had about 10 flashback scenes, while other characters like Emily Brent, the Judge, Armstrong, even Lombard, only had one flashback sequence. It felt melodramatic and a bit wasteful; they could have used some of that time developing the other characters' backstories. And I really didn't need to see five scenes of Vera floating randomly in the ocean...I get that they were trying to be atmospheric, but it didn't work and frankly was a waste of valuable screentime!

This adaption centers on Vera's character.

I think the multiple flashbacks were there for a reason. They had to explain why she would crack in the end, shooting her ally Lombard and trying to hang herself. She was in denial about her guilt until she had to face it. None of the other characters were that conflicted.

Aside from the killer, Emily Brent and Lombard were the only ones who felt they did the right thing. They're not conflicted nor is their backstory a mystery.

Vera's flashback was one with a reveal so it needed more scenes.

Vera is pretty much the central character in the book, with a flashback pretty much in each chapter. That may explain why they went that route in this adaptation.
