when i heard of this mini-series I figured it was a natural for PBS
but in aired instead on basic cable. was it too adult per se for PBS?

Maybe because the cable channel could pay more? (Reimbursing itself by selling all that commercial time)
shareFrom what I understand it was co-produced by the A & E entertainment network, of which Lifetime is an affiliate.
The viewing figures were apparently poor probably having to do with multiple factors such as the show being on Lifetime (not the networks usual fare) and significant lack of meaningful advertising. PBS would indeed have been a more natural fit.
I was home on the Sunday and watched the first episode but I had to fly to Miami for a conference on Monday. The hotel I stayed in had a large selection of basic cable stations but Lifetime wasn't one of them so I missed the US second episode broadcast. Maybe Lifetime isn't part of a lot of packages.
This seemed a natural for PBS. I had wondered why they didn't buy it?? But, money talks.
shareBesides getting a disc from Netflix, where else can I see it online. What other site streams it? It's not on YT or Daily Motion!!!
shareDid you get to see it? I suggest checking out your local public library for DVDs. They often carry them.
"What are you??" "I'm Complicated."-Dorian Gray speaking to an attacker in LXG
It's streaming on amazon now, but you have to pay for it. It's not covered by Prime membership either. I ordered the discs thru Netflix, but I think it's worth paying for.
shareI agree that it would have fit PBS better, especially considering their past with other Christie series like Marple and Poirot. Or even BBC America (even it meant bumping their neverending Star Trek Next Generation reruns.) Lifetime seemed an odd choice, due to their poor reputation. Then again maybe if it had a more Lifetime friendly title (like Mother,May I Go to this Island and Party with Danger!) it might have done better.
Starman, waiting in the sky. He would like to come and meet us but he thinks he would blow our minds
Maybe they realized it was very good.
