The Hook In Vera's Room

They focused so much on that hook in Vera's room, I thought for sure someone (either Vera or Philip) would have taken the time to loosen the screws as a precaution!! I kept waiting for Vera to crash down after the judge left her; I was so hoping we'd then see a flashback of Philip (or Vera) loosening the screws just a enough) - which would have been even more heartbreaking since she just killed the guy...I know they're bad people, but dang, I wanted a happy ending...

I think none of the characters ever anticipated a hanging. All of the other murders were quick attacks ( and had to be because the murderer had to get away before he was spotted or even suspected). Also hanging basically requires a group ganging up on the victim (or, in this case, the victim's partial cooperation) not a lone murderer.

Except the final line of the poem referred to a hanging.

they're not thinking ahead. in their terror they only think of the next one when it happens and not the poem in its entirety each time someone is murdered

reply

True. Though that's not the way it happens in real life. People get real focused under pressure. Especially when it comes to life or death.
