Favorite "unsung" moments

What's your favorite moment that doesn't get the due you feel it deserves?

For me, it's Rob Heaps' reaction shot in the hospital when Vera says "poor little Cyril". The mixture of shock and disgust is perfect.

The scene with Miss Brent when Mrs. Rogers is shining her shoes and Brent tells her to wear Eau de Cologne. The heartlessness of Brent saying this and the shame on Rogers' face clearly defines both the class system in England in the 1930s and the cruelty of the self-righteous spinster.

reply

Agreed, that's a terrific scene all around.

So many great nuances to pick from!

Everyone's glances of embarrassment and disgust at Ms Brent's saying "She was a WONDERFUL cook!" and then "this egg is precisely 4 minutes is it?" after Mrs Rogers' death.

Morris' assistant Audrey's judgy looks and jade jewelry. Also, the way Morris, when talking to Lombard, somehow combines "you" at the end of a sentence with his command "Audrey, the box." I half expect Lombard to say, "My name's not Audrey, and don't call me The Box."

Blore not responding at first to the judge calling him Davis when asking him to carry his suitcase to the house. Blore practicing his posh accent and then saying "'me' bearings." Blore saying snifter.

Everyone's reaction to Marsten's crass remark about Mrs. Rogers. I loved Mr. Rogers's snide,"I'll give your regards to my wife."

He struck the perfect note.

Upon rewatch Wargraves is a mastermind, turning the others against each other, tossing out just the right comment to create an air of mistrust.

reply

what was his remark again?

reply

"She may look like the undead, but she can DEFINITELY cook."

reply

During the litany of crimes via gramophone, .Wargraves loops at Blore when his name is called. Every one knows him as Davis at that time.

reply

Yes, that's a very good point!

reply

Oh, I totally missed that! Nice catch!

Not really an unsung moment, but I loved Vera's old-fashioned knitted swimming suit (or I guess Brits would say "bathing costume.") Of course they didn't have Spandex back then and it was a great idea to show what they had instead.

reply

Pretty much everything Toby Stephens did qualifies as unsung. I absolutely loved his snotty, paranoid take on fidgety Dr. Armstrong.

Blore: "I ain't eatin a MOUTHFUL of his pie." *shudders*

I thought I'd hate the party scene where they use Marston's stuff to get high and drunk, but it really really works well, with the slow and fast motion shots and distorted music playing in the background.

Blore: "You better stop calling me that or I'll..."

Lombard: "You'll WHAT?"

Blore: *Looks pissed but says nothing*

Wargrave: "I'm going to read. I'm sorry, Dr. Armstrong, but I find your agitation...tiring...."

Blore's explanation and the giggles of why he was so late in coming down after Rogers' body is discovered.

Lombard: "You get the stairs. I'm going to wash the guts out of the wood stove."
