Nick Offerman's recent casting as Bill made me look back at the cast again. I knew about Tommy and Joel being Hispanic now. I did not know Sarah was black now.

What in God's name is their goal here? To find people who resemble the cast as little as possible?
This isn't just a little different, it's jarring. I remember not long after people started to finish this game, people started to talk about a miniseries or show. Specifically, people said this would make a good show and not a movie. Hugh Jackman, Gerard Butler, Jamie Lannister from GOT, and Anson Mount were some of the names tossed around for Joel. Caitlin Dever and Ellen Page for Ellie. And this is what they give us.

What's the problem? Seems you have an issue diversity. The series is a reimagining of the games not a remake.

These characters don't look like the ones in the immensely popular game that made this show possible. They are white mid-west men. You know, like how Shaft is a black dude from NY and Black Panther African? It's who. they. are.

Is always the false slander thrown about by the idiot left when confront with the completely legitimate complaints about race-washing.

I don't have an issue with diversity, I have an issue with forced diversity for virtue signaling which does nothing to further the story and in fact often hurts it

There was zero need to make Sarah black.
You already have Reilly, Marlene, Henry and Sam.
Sarah is White.
Joel and Tommy are White.

But it seems there is a concerted effort nowadays to erase White males from reality.
Joel and Tommy are now Hispanic. Joel's daughter is somehow Black instead of also Hispanic.
Bill is still a white male. But Bill's gay.
Tess is White but she's female.
The only white males to remain in the game are the ones who are clearly evil like David.

That's not diversity. That's a deliberate agenda.

The first game was already perfect, the story was told in the best possible way it could have been. This is going to be a travesty.

I agree that the first game was perfect. But I can see the story working as a series perfectly too. I have feeling this will be a great show, but we'll see.

I'm just never going to be able to look at these TV characters as Joel or Ellie. Their essence is burned into my mind and soul from the game, and seeing these actors try to masquerade as them is going to feel very wrong. Not to mention, I'm sure there's going to be various retcons to shoehorn it more into the second game's narrative, and god knows what else. For the average viewer who has no connection to the game, maybe it'll be great. I highly doubt that will be the case for me.

I can't rule it out without having seen a trailer, but I am certainly leaning that direction. I was very open to a sow too.
