So Dorothy is a police officer and runs over the witch with a car? wow..

True, it looked bad but I thought it would at least be fun. It was a travesty.

As for Emerald City, the way I look at it is this: People keep complaining that Hollywood just keeps remaking properties and ruining them. But the way it actually works is Hollywood is only remaking properties because that is what people want to see. When they remake something, it makes money. Original properties fail most of the time.

The thing to remember is that these filmmakers, like the one making Emerald City, aren't thinking "I want to remake The Wizard of Oz, but make it weird". He just wants to make a visually stunning and epic story that involves science and magic and the best way for him to do that is to go to NBC and say "Hey, I want to make this epic story, and it will be based on the Wizard of Oz, but only just in name and a couple of plot points, just to get people to tune in because they've heard of The Wizard of Oz."

Almost everything you see is a remake of something else, it's just usually they change the names of stuff so you don't notice. Star Wars is just Buck Rogers in space. Indiana Jones is just Allan Quarterman with a different name in a different time.

Emerald City might suck. But it might not. But it will definitely suck if you go into it thinking it is just a remake of Wizard of Oz because then you'll be comparing everything to the old movie. Go into it with no expectations and you might just be pleasantly surprised.

With all that said, I won't be tuning in because yeah, the trailer looks pretty awful and there are too many other good shows out there.
