I don't understand!

Okay, I just watched the two minute trailer for this new show. As I am a fan of the fantasy/scifi genre, This show is right up my alley.

I don't understand all the reviews it has already gotten considering, I have only watched all of two minutes of the entire season??

Is it a scam show to rival Game of Thrones?? So what, GoT is an excellent show, has been an excellent series, and if this show is out there to compete with GoT, wonderful news for those of us that enjoy the fantasy television entertaining shows.

I don't watch reality tv anymore, because it bores me to death. But shows like this, even if CGI is the predominantly leading character, doesn't bother me in the least.

If this type of genre show isn't your cuppa tea, move along as they say, and find some mind numbing idiot proof reality garbage to entertain yourself with.

I for one, WILL be WATCHING this with great anticipation, tyvm!!

I was with you up to this point. I'll never understand what makes people believe their opinion is right and others wrong. Worse, what makes you, and so many of them, feel they can dictate to others what they should do and how they should feel and behave.

Thinking others can only handle mind numbing idiot proof reality garbage, simply because their opinion is in contrast to yours, says much more about you than them.

Too bad. Up to the point you spouted this gibberish, your post sounded as if you were making an intelligent point. It was clear and we'll thought out. Why you felt the need to add the belittling insult escapes me. It just comes across as superior sounding and arrogant.

1. we've already seen it before: the whole OZ / Dorthy thing. What, again? Why not do something new?

2. it is (was) a CLASSIC in its own existance, unneeding a bastardized rework that no longer even resembles the original. Why not simply do something new?

3. THIS takes up time, space, and budget of a possible even better idea we won't get to see now. Wish to see something NEW.

I agree "reality" TV is the absolute bottom bucket for entertainment, but rehashes/remakes/reimages/reboots/redeauxs are just right above reality tv TO ME.

reply

Did you just hear of remakes? The classic was itself a remake, so who's to say this retelling couldn't be considered a classic in it's own right??

reply

The original remake - the most popular classic one - was not done in a time when they'd release 1000 sequals, or 4 versions of the same thing (cough spiderman / hulk cough)

have you kept up with all the remakes of late? I don't recall one successful one in the bunch: ghostbusters, point break, ben hur....

and THIS version of Oz does not even reflect the book. it's just a way to twist it into something completely different. same old same old kingdom wars but attaching key characters from the oz universe. how could something like this ever become a "classic"? anymore than the last 6 spiderman's?

reply

I for one am all for further exploration of Oz and Dorothy did grow up so what if she is now in her late twenties. There is room to expand on Oz and further the story! The hell with purists! We all grew up with The Wizard of Oz but it was a movie musical this is a reimagined in some ways story for TV

reply

Actually, the original was a book by Frank Baum, and several movies were produced based on his Oz books well before Judy Garland did the movie that most people mistake as the original.

I am not a fantasy sci-fi fan, but I also do not like reality television. My taste in television is eclectic. There are many shows and genres I enjoy.

Oh look, another fantasy elitist who believes everyone else inferior for not salivating over every rehashed and/or copycat series that throws tropes on screen.

It's like flies mocking people for not wishing to consume garbage.

I have found that judging a movie or mini-series by its trailer is a lot like judging a book by its cover.

That being said, there are more choices than just SciFi/fantasy and "mind numbing ... reality garbage". Lots of people who don't much care for SciFi/fantasy also have little use for reality shows. You should learn more about what's out there if that's the only two genres you know anything about.

My main beef with reality shows is that they don't appear to have much reality to them, but now I'm going off on a tangent. I'm sure plenty of people find them entertaining.

But I have to say that I'm curious to see what has been done with Emerald City.
