If they wanted to make a modern retelling of The Wizard of Oz they may as well have done an adaptation of Gregory Maguire's Wicked - and not the musical version, the dark, gritty book version. Now THAT I'd pay to see.

Yeah, there's definitely enough material to turn it into a series - there are also four books in the Wicked series. Granted, I shouldn't have called it a 'modern retelling' when it's actually a retelling from the wicked witch's point of view.
