This is going to flop...

If they wanted to make a modern retelling of The Wizard of Oz they may as well have done an adaptation of Gregory Maguire's Wicked - and not the musical version, the dark, gritty book version. Now THAT I'd pay to see.

This is a TV show, not a movie.

By Grabthar's Hammer...what a savings.

I've never read the book, but is there enough material there to turn into a series? I like your idea much better than what the show that's going to air.

Yeah, there's definitely enough material to turn it into a series - there are also four books in the Wicked series. Granted, I shouldn't have called it a 'modern retelling' when it's actually a retelling from the wicked witch's point of view.

I did not know that Wicked was a series of books. I thought it was just one book. I sort of knew what you meant by modern retelling. It doesn't have to mean setting the story in the present day; it could also mean telling the story in a new way.

It's like watching WWII from Hitler's POV...

Seriously, why so much fascination and need to justify the actions of villains these days?

Is this part of the ploy to make Stalin and Mao look like great, misunderstood mass murderers?

reply

Dare I venture that you meant a retelling with a modern tone?
