PC culture is going to far.

When Gods of Men came out, everyone cried out, why are you casting white people as Egyptian Gods and ripped them big time for it. Yet they keep replacing white characters with non white Characters and we are told to accept it as diversity. They can shove their hypocritical diversity and PC culture where the sun doesn't shine.

reply

Well, they still are doing that. The witch of the west was green, not white! That is just straight up cultural appropriation!! Green Magic Matters! Plus, the whole little boy who is "really" a girl?! I know that comes directly from Baum's books, but that sounds like all that transgender nonsense to me!

reply

Regardless of the paint that is on them, you can still tell what color they are underneath. Why is it women iconic white characters are replaced, liberals make up every excuse they can to justify it, but when white characters replace iconic non white ones, they throw a hissy fit saying how whites are white washing history and cultural appropiation?

reply

They throw a hissy fit because they don't agree with it. Just like some others throw a hissy fit when a white character is replaced with a non white actor. (Heimdall in Thor for instance)

reply

That I thought was the most ironic, since in the sagas, Heimdall was said to be the whitest of all the Gods. So in the movie they made him black.

reply

That guy on Mr. Robot Rami Malek looks like the whitest guy and he's Egyptian. Besides, it seems to me if you look at modern Egyptians and the Ancient Egyptian carvings, you see Egyptians of all colors, even the Pharaohs...AND THEY DGAF. Why should you?

reply

DGAF:

Do or Don't gave a f(oh, well, you know, but because you can't swear any more...)

reply

Can you figure it out by context?

reply

Yeah, but let's be honest; you got to make your own fun now the world is going to hell in a hand basket.

reply

Oh you are full of it Zoltan or whatever your name is. Sounds like a bunch of reverse PC crap, so I'm calling it CP. Conservatard Pueey! And for the record I never knew the blue girl from Avatar was a black woman until I saw the actress on a talk show later. But I let my KKK and Nazi party memberships slide so maybe that's why.

reply

The WWotW was an old white woman in the book and was a fairly minor character.

Milo, I've told you again and again - please, don't walk on the chickens!

reply

You talk about books and then claim a movie creation is accurate....

She never had green skin in Baum's books.

reply

I think you meant Gods of Egypt and it's not the same. That was basically an entire cast that was white, not that I cared, the movie sucked anyway. It just boggles me that people care enough about it to make a post about it. Plus, in an interview it was mentioned that she herself was surprised that she was casted for the roll, cause of her being a Latina. She just auditioned with a "what do I have to lose" attitude, since she didn't expect to be cast. But they went with the actress they felt did the best job. Not everything is a PC thing, just sayin', so just calm down and enjoy the show, or don't. No one is forcing you to watch it.

reply

Didn't watch it, I read about it, got interested and looked it up on IMDB. Then seen who plays the characters and was like WHAT. Just getting tired of the PC double standard. If it applies for one group of people, it should apply to all groups of people or none at all.

reply

the actress playing Dorothy (at least going by the first 2 eps of the show thus far) is doing a great job in the role. she seems to be a good actress. it doesn't hurt matters that she's also extremely gorgeous. :)

reply

Didn't watch it, I read about it, got interested and looked it up on IMDB.

So wow, you're just TROLLING a tv show you have no intention of watching?
WTF...?

If you're so anti-PC go post on the political board.

Hate-watching says more about the viewer than it does about the show.

reply

What a reductive, simplistic way of thinking.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."

reply

But it is a true way to look at it. Not like the Ancient one in DR. Strange. They cast a woman instead of a man for the role, which is win for Women's equality. I mean now a white person can't be a martial arts master, specially if they are also a woman. How many bigoted ways of thinking is that. By the way they changed the Ancient one to a woman because they wanted to stop treating Asians like they are only good if it is a Kung fu movie. Now we have PC culture bitching because they tried to please women's equality and sacrificed Asian heritage because the role should have been Asian. It is PC culture run amuck period. The best actor should get the role, period. It doesn't matter what they look like only that they can dance in front of the camera in a believable way.

reply

I have no idea what you're talking about.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."

reply

Sure. They all of a sudden became sensitive of East Asian perceptions, then in same breath eviscerated a notable Asian character. C'mon? Swinton was cast to appease white audiences. Its that simple.

And if it there was a present bad perception, then there was nothing stopping them from making the Ancient one into a more well-rounded character by writing him better for the screen. Really, it would've only required minor tweaks, but the producers went the long way round (and we both know why).

reply

This is stupid. You're comparing casting EGYPTIANS as white to casting fictional characters in a make believe world? That's why "the wiz" was so necessary. Why is it you can only imagine whiteness in make believe settings? Everything's white. What she you complaining about. Game of thrones. Lord of the Rings. Almost everyone in the biggest projects are white and as soon as an effort is made to do it differently you bitch about it. There is no shortage of roles for white people in Hollywood. Stop trying to make yourself a victim. Imaginary discrimination.

reply

Well Egyptians as they were don't exist...the modern Egyptian population is the result of mass immigration/invasion. Also with Egypt being one of the significant trading zones of the ancient world it's not like a mix of races weren't around...

Comparing casting FICTIONAL egyptian gods as white.

If that's your biggest problem in life, then I want to be you. Seriously? Why is it that SOME White people are so THREATENED by this? As a matter of fact I told myself that in about three or four posts,I would find (not MAYBE find, but ABSOLUTELY WOULD) some White person bitching and moaning about some FICTIONAL character not being WHITE.You could have Brad Pitt playing Malcolm X and please TRUST me, I wouldn't lose a minute of sleep. This is a horrible weakness. ROFL,dont feel so THREATENED.Trump won and he's going to make the nation White again. Even the entertainment industry. So hold tight and before you know it movie and TV casts will resemble Hollywood circa 1935.Whites will be the heroes and Black people will be butlers, maids, musicians and afraid of their own shadows.

reply

digitalceo95, i'm white and i agree w/ you 100%. so many white straight people (i notice it seems to be mostly white men) can't deal with the fact that tv shows/movies are now incorporating people of color, people in the LGBT communities, etc. etc. and speaking as a white person it's pathetic they can't deal with it. when i started watching this show, the fact Dorothy wasn't white never, not for 1 second, even entered my mind. i just instantly noticed the actress playing Dorothy had good screen presence and seemed to be a good actress (and i'll be shallow, i thought she was GORGEOUS right off the bat! lol). that's all that matters IMO, not what color he or she is.

reply

Lol! I wish this guy had YOUR mindset! Both Black AND White folks have BIGGER problems TODAY than the cast of a TV show. And yes, she's a very beautiful young lady. :)

reply

THANK YOU! 

reply

Why are POC threatened by the opposite?

Like "oscars too white"?

I don't care that dhorothy is a POC. I like the character. I loved the black witch, too bad we don't get to see her more. She was way more interesting than the other 2 white witches. So i don't have a problem with fictional characters being played by POC.

Why do you you have a problem when they are played by white actors?

reply

STFU, they cast the BEST actress they auditioned! Like someone else here said, she is actually good. Go figure, they actually cast the best person for the job, regardless of skin color and ethnicity.

I like big butts and I cannot lie

reply

It's what MLK preached until his dying day.

reply

Curious. Where exactly was the description of Dorothy's race in Frank Baum's original novel?

reply

She is from Kansas, but has family in Australia.

reply

A few characters in a fictional land were given color versus an entire cast in a real land of brown skinned people being made white.

You're a complete idiot. White people have been inserted into nearly every story as the center of the universe for decades. Now the white head honchos are finally giving others the chance to shine and you whine.

Get over yourself.
