I'm very......how about you?
Disappointed...not really what I though the show would be about. I think the writers have taken too much out of the original to make it ever comparable. Just my opinion though....what do you all think??

shareOnly 1/3 through meh. Odd. I know the books are super bizarre but this? Vincent D'Onofrio's wig is freaking me out.
shareI find it a bit too dark. And they have not even told us about the ruby red gloves...yes gloves encrusted with Rudy's I suppose?
share"Gloves encrusted with Rudy's", what does that mean? Do ever read your posts as they always seem to have words missing? Here is another example from the same thread;
"I think the succeeded with that but I think that may be their undoing..just my opinion...."
I think they're trying to make their own thing, their own take on Oz. I like it so far. I think it's pushing that diversity agenda...ie: rather than feeling celebrated, it feels forced and contrived, not appreciated.
But they have some interesting visual takes and new story backgrounds to explain the characters, and that's pretty cool actually.

I agree about the look but it's very dark. There is hardly anyone I can sympathize with except Dorothy and her backstory as a nurse stealing pills is a bit much for me. Just my humble opinion...
I totally had a hard time with that part too. It started things off on the wrong foot with me too. The main character steals pain pills for her Auntie? Taking them away from a real patient who needs them? Some nurse! It cooled my heals watching that scene straight out of the gates!

I agree Merrida....there was a little too much darkness..plus did you notice the scarecrow was on a cross? That was a little unsettling for me too..and they didn't tell us anything about why her real mom was dead and what her story was...
shareThe scarecrow on the cross was a little weird.
shareAnd not really a scarecrow..but I did notice a real scarecrow in Aunt Em's field when it first started?
shareMany people associate the cross with religion but in actuality it was a form of execution long before and after the religious aspects kicked in.
shareMany people associate the swastika with hate but in actuality it is a 12,000 year old symbol found throughout ancient history in countries like England, Egypt, parts of Asia and in Africa to name a few. Long before the Nazi aspects kicked in.
I hated the pill thing too.
But really disliked introducing the Wicked Witch of the West as a junkie prostitute - seriously, that old trope?
Alright she's damaged but did the writers / executives learn nothing from Wicked the Musical - wow!
Happiness must be earned.
I agree....didn't Dorothy kill a witch when she arrived in the police cruiser? Or who was being buried in the woods with all the game of thrones rejects? Which one was that....then she killed the witch with the ruby gloves who was tricked by Dorothy with the gun(which I assumed to be the wicked witch of the west)..was it her with the brothel??
shareThe witch she killed was East.
shareThanks Fran! So I guess the witch at the beginning wasn't really dead...confusing...
shareThere's this scene where the Wizards envoy arrives at the village. The chief leads him inside the hut where East is supposed to lie dead, but she's gone. Then later the witch confronts Dorothy and Lucas on the road. So it's quite obvious she wasn't really dead at that point.
This is perhaps a problem with this show. It doesn't seem meant for casual viewing. You have to keep your eyes peeled all the time, to not miss out on relevant information.
Personally I liked it a lot. I liked the dark twists and the uncertainty.
I just hope it doesn't go the way of so many shows these days. Love triangles and such til everybody's slept with everybody, and they have to invent some new madness to keep the show going.
There should however be enough magic in the material to keep that cheap solution from happening.
Maybe poker's just not your game Ike. I know, let's have a spelling contest.(Tombstone)

I agree that you have to pay attention. I got halfway through, but started it over because I was doing something else while trying to watch. The whole thing made a lot more sense, and I actually found myself liking it. I'm an author, and I like the idea of taking an old tale and putting a different spin on it. Besides, I've been a Vincent D"Onofrio fan since Full Metal Jacket, and I love that Toto is a German Shepherd.
shareI'm also a D'onofrio fan. I've yet to see a bad performance from him.

Would it be a sin if I wished for nothing that's trying to tell a serious story to be meant for 'casual viewing'? Half watching/listening to TV might as well be the space for Kardashians, most network TV and a grab bag of police procedural clones.
I guess I'm trying to say that from my perspective there is nothing but a huge amount of praise to be laid on any property that you actually have to...watch. And I don't meant to condescend but what other way could you make your point more clear than in the admission you don't want depth?
"Only a witch can kill a witch."
You just have to listen to the dialog...
Exactly. I picked up on that too. So indeed, a witch did kill a witch!

So what? I found nothing innovative about that bit of dialog. The show is visually interesting, but clearly is never going anywhere. A sword-and-sorcery soap opera. Boring.
shareI was confused by that too, until I went back and restarted it from the beginning. There was a scene where the tribe chief went in to where they had the witch's body, but it was gone.
shareIt may not need a witch to kill a witch. A gun which doesn't exist in OZ killed a witch. However, whoever kills a witch may get some kinda power from them, i guess the gloves proves that.
There's another detail. Ojo who guided Dorothy, lied to the guards after he saw the witch wasn't dead, which meant they judged her wrong. Guards were told that dorothy took the long road around, but the wizard's top dog Eamon didn't buy it and went through, I wonder if we'll see Ojo and the tribes again. And if it'll be revealed that he tried to help Dorothy when he realized he was wrong.
What?
Ugh why do they have to do this to everything? Oooh we are so dark and cynical and cool, Dorothy is a thief and the witch is a druggie hooker! What rubbish
I thought the Western witch was awesome :)
shareAt first look it's not similar to the books nor the 1939 movie, and I've read all the original books. It's no doubt a grown-up version of the story, whatever else might be different. Looks impressive though.
shareBottom line it's very slow moving to the point of boredom oh yes it's being done on a grand scale but that doesn't help.
Let's not forget the MUNSTERS reboot!
on location with SUPERMAN I,& OTHER STARS

I liked it. The dark. The diversity. All of it.

The show sucks. All style, no substance. That is why it is on Friday nights. That is the night many shows, other than the news documentaries, that will only mostly appeal to kids/teens are on (see: "Grimm").
Maybe I was expecting more, but this is just a soap opera n a sword and sorcery setting. It will never have any satisfying conclusion or even episodic shows; it will just go on and on with boring "intrigue".
I'm done with it. There are too many other good shows and movies to watch to waste more time on a show that will never go anywhere.
Well, 'disappoined' is not the right word for how I feel, because I've seen the previews and promos and kind of expected it to go the dark route. That is far from what the movie stood for, but I am theoretically opened for the new version.
I found it impressive how expensive it seams. Sets seam real, camera work is great, even the castle looks real. It's definitely not 'OUAT in Wonderland' production quality.
Even though they deviated from the movie versions, I enjoyed the acting and interaction of The Wizard, Glinda and The Wicked Witch. There is some interesting GoT/LOTR intrigue in there.
I didn't care much for Dorothy, though. I don't know if it's the actress or writing or both, but she was just… there. She wasn't horrified or surprised enough for someone just awaking in a foreign land. She should have asked questions about her whereabouts, magic and such, not taking it all for granted.
Also, they rushed things with Toto. Since they went with a story that he wasn't her dog from before, they missed an opportunity to create a relationship through examples of training and trust. Basically, as soon as he was with her, he was with her. No questions asked.
Munchins make me sad… they didn't even attempt having dwarves… with this and OUAT take on dwarves, one wonders weather there is more height discrimination now than it was in the 30s, which is ridicolous.
Is anyone else kind of tired of 'The Chosen One' stories if the chosen ones aren't that interesting?
Overall, I gave it a mixed review.
