Most ridiculous plot point every in N or M Part Three

When Tommy gives the key to the bomb because someone is holding a gun to his wife's head? First, the bomb would kill thousands of people. Second, she was holding a single shot revolver, so she would have been screwed once she pulled the trigger. Three, the other people in the room would have jumped the woman when they realized that he was willing to give away the key. Four, his wife should have grabbed for the gun or tried to dive away when he realized that her husband was going to give away the key but she just stood there doing nothing potentially letting thousands of people die.

After seeing that incredibly stupid scene, I turned off the show and I'll never watch it again. This is not the Agatha Christie that I know and love. I wonder if this scene was the written the same in the original novel?
