Some inconsistencies and contradictions in Jane the Virgin

Very small ones, but they stack up.

Here's two:

Petra and Jane drive to the Angelique book reading in Petra's car. While in line, Petra's water breaks. She grabs her phone and says "I'll call an uber!" No - you drove there! You get in the car and Jane will drive you to the hospital. It's like they forgot they used Petra's car to get there.

Jane's wedding. The limo Rogelio hires overheats, so they catch the bus. Really? No Uber? Can't call a car service?

Just silly.

reply

Lol! I've yet to see S2, but it sounds like they need to hire a script continuity person.

Could it be deliberate as another way of emulating novelas? Cause from the ones I've seen, it doesn't seem like they even know of the concept of continuity in that industry 

They actually do attempt an uber before the wedding, but it's 28 minutes away. While the others are inconsistencies, I think you have to chalk it up to the campy nature of the show. It's supposed to be silly and over the top. Of course a person wouldn't really get on a city bus in her wedding gown, but she also wouldn't have taken a meeting with her advisors on her wedding day. And she probably wouldn't have her wedding in the set of a telenovela either.

reply

Yeah and Jane constantly has a meeting with her advisors. IN real life it's like twice a semester, she practically lives there.

reply

Like you said, these are two very minor details they likely just missed, in a very rich and well written show, so no I don't think they stack up.

reply

I think you might have been a little distracted during both of these scenes!

When Petra's water breaks they are in line for Jane to confront the author. Petra says "I'll call an uber" so Jane can stay to confront the author. We even see a moment where Jane considers this before shaking her head and saying "No, no, I'll drive you!" It was actually a pretty funny moment and not at all an inconsistency.

As far as the wedding, they DO look for an uber; the estimated arrival time for the uber was 38 minutes, which was obviously way too long.

reply

38 minutes wait time for an Uber in Miami? 3-8 minutes is more like it. We may have crazy traffic down here, but there's always an Uber or Lyft available to sit in said traffic with.

reply

I was wondering how realistic that part was lol, I live just outside of Orlando and in the middle of the day it doesn't usually take longer than 10 minutes, 15 tops, for an Uber to reach me. 40 minutes in a large and highly populated city like Miami didn't sound like the norm lol.

What the hell is a Stiles?

reply

I live in NYC and it doesn't take 28 minutes for an Uber either.

reply

But that doesn't mean it will never ever happen. It is possible that you catch a day where nobody is immediately available. Are there a thousand or more ubers specifically where they were? I'm just saying there are a lot of possibilities that could have resulted in that. Yes, it was a little dramatic writing, but it's not just ignorant or lazy writing.
