Michael, the Saint

Now, I really love Michael's character and I'm (generally) a huge fan of the Michael/Jane relationship.

But does anyone else get a bit exasperated by how "perfect" they made him in season 2 and now again in season 3?

Anytime Jane has an insecurity or problem, I feel like Michael is the one who is always giving and sacrificing. It's just getting to be unrealistic in an unhealthy way. I know it's a telenovela but the character are at least somewhat believably 3D; even Michael was more flawed and human in season 1. He had his own opinions & issues, and sometimes disagreed with Jane. Now, when they disagree, it takes all of half an episode for him to be like "I'm sorry, you're the love of my life so you're right, of course".

Some examples I can think of are: him sacrificing the Ideal House bc of Jane's wishes to be closer to Raf. Him "fighting" for Jane even though Jane repeatedly picked someone else or outright lied to him. Him being fine with Jane showing up late to the wedding. Him telling Jane that he'd give up his job for her (if a female character ever did that for a man, I'd automatically label the relationship as unhealthy). Him picking Jane's side over his mother's.

It's not like any of the above are wrong, and I love Michael for being a great guy...but come on? Who is that okay to let their girlfriend/wife get the ultimate say in literally everything? Jane needs someone who can fight back a little, and I think that person is Michael...but the writers have bloated his nice guy thing.

A rose is just a rose.

For most people, Michael or is a saint or is shady, I think he’s between, their relationship often seems to be on one-side, but most of the relationship on television is the man fighting for the women's love, it’s rare to see a woman fighting for the love of a man. But what I like most about Michael is that he’s a person who learns from his mistakes. He had trouble accepting the idea of Mateo and did some shady things, but he struggles it and handled it and took a mature attitude (but he paid for his mistakes losing Jane in the first season).
He was irrational in the second season when he attacked Rafael or when he tried to say to Jane how she supposedly feels, he’s a bit defensive too Like before the wedding and in the last episode (3x02). I just think he’s a normal guy.

The examples that you mentioned what bothers me the most is Michael give up his job to be with Jane. That's not fair to him. But on the other I haven’t seen Michael so caught the idea of a dream home, he would live in any decent house where it was convenient for he and Jane/Rafael. I also haven’t seen Michael repeatedly fought for Jane, he had a difficult time in dealing with the end of the engagement, which seems reasonable to me, but half of the first season he was trying to move on but when Jane & Rafael broke up Jane he started to fight for Jane again because she start to send mixes signs for him. He's a little stubborn what can be a quality or a flaw depends on the way it uses. He doesn’t give up easy on things, at work or in his personal life. So when they say that he constantly fighting for Jane it’s because maybe his personality is to try everything in his power before he giving up. Because I feel that when he do gives up. It's forever.

I don’t see Jane always with the last word in the relationship, what I like about them is how they always talk to each other, try to find a middle ground, unlike Rafael who try to give way everything for Jane for the hope she chooses him.
