Feels Regressive

I know that most will disagree, but the character change in Petra makes no sense and seems quite regressive if you ask me. I really have no clue why she's doing what she's doing. Last year she made it clear, albeit after having her guard up for some time, that she was having a very difficult time bonding with her children. If she was really upset about that comment she wouldn't want her sister anywhere near her children due to jealousy, but she said she's going to keep her around Because of that so that doesn't really make sense either. She said that she was incapacitated and no one noticed for quite sometime when in actuality the reason they were able to tell something was off was because she was acting devious again. If she had been acting devious leading up to the whole switch up there's a great chance that no one would have ever noticed and her sister would have succeeded in her plan. I get why the writers would want to get Petra back to a more villainous role, but like I said narratively it just doesn't make any sense. I wish there had been some tighter writing with a better catalyst for why she decided to go back to her old ways.

I'm confused by it too. I was liking the "new" Petra that was softer, and friendlier to Jane. Now she's back to being a villain? And I played back the scene a couple times but didn't catch how she's blackmailing Rafael. What was it she whispered in his ear that would be enough to make him keep his mouth shut about Seska (sp?) crippling her?

Just all very confusing. I've enjoyed the actress' dual role but this is getting way too complex.

Not really. I was upset too last night but after a while it makes total sense. I mean Petra has literally been a victim since day one and she's tried being nice and look where it got her at the end. She bonded with her sister only to have her backstab her in the end. In her eyes this is Petra not being the victim and being in charge. Her anger towards Rafael is justified because the person who should've seen it didn't. He didn't notice a thing for three months. And if it weren't Jane it would've been longer. Rafael has been with Petra for so long and he couldn't tell a single difference between the two sisters. So as the Petra character goes this mood change makes total sense.

I think petra was upset rafael didnt notice anseka was posing as her thus her anger.

"Bad Bitch" Petra makes for entertaining TV, though.

If I don't reply, you're probably on my ignore list for something I forgot already

I've been reading a lot of disappointment in how Petra being saved from paralysis was handled. I feel ripped off, myself. Sure, there is a rationalization for her to feel not cared about, but as the OP says, she already knew she wasn't a connected mom - that's why she went to bonding classes with Jane. Rafael in the past has confessed to Petra that he'd played on her emotions to get shares from her, etc. without igniting Petra's rage. She's tolerated much more from him than simply that he thinks she might be missing the "mom gene." Her vowing to ruin him based on that makes no sense.

If they wanted her to be a bad bitch again, we need to see the reasons why on camera. In pieces of flashback, they showed little bits of things like a cell phone being tossed on her, etc. Well, the people who did that thought she was Anezka, not Petra. I resent that we did not see paralyzed Petra register ANYTHING that would make her feel betrayed while she was paralyzed. It was just railroaded through. Very bad writing. The show often trips itself up with Petra, but I thought they had recognized it and were getting better.

Examples, most of the audience was appalled that in the middle of a mother's day celebration where Petra was also celebrating mother's day, Rogelio thought it was appropriate to screen a video he'd made where all the guests talked about Jane's perfection. What a turn off. A lot of fans were also turned off by the episode in which Jane repeatedly told Petra to her face that she was better than Petra. This season, we saw Jane apologize for that, so I figured the writers knew there was a misstep. But now I think, no. They just don't know how to write for Petra and respect the fact that the fans care about her. I have seen a villain treated sympathetically before. It's possible for Petra to still be an antagonist while giving her the payoffs that they've set up. Instead they skip over them.
