So Luke deflected the first solar flare thing?
can someone explain what happened with Luke and the first solar flare deal?
sharecan someone explain what happened with Luke and the first solar flare deal?
shareHis power was to absorb solar energy and redirect it as flame bursts... so in the end he aborbed it all, but it was (maybe) too much so he seemed to self-combust... Obviously they left it wide open in terms of his survival, in case they decided to use him on a 2nd season... but apparently that's not gonna happen now =P
Anyways, that's waht happened.
jmz, thanx for the clarification! :)
shareObviously, because the disintegration of his atoms could mean anything. ;DP
shareit looked like they turned him into solar-Jesus (only half kidding, seriously, the way they had him rise, the position he was in...)
shareHe's a Millennial and figured the sun shone out of his ass. He was right - very, very briefly.
shareHe can fly.
shareYep, and I'm so glad they had him use that power throughout the show instead of just having the ability pop up without notice or explanation at the very end...forget I said that.
If at first you don't succeed, keep trying til you find someone to blame.
The Wonder Twin power was so awful. I wish they didn't use it at all. Tommy absorbing Malina's power would have been better.
shareI wouldn't really call what he was doing "flying."
He can absorb and emit solar energy. If he's attracting the solar flare, the solar flare is also attracting him. Since he's not anchored to the Earth by any means besides gravity, if the intensity of that attraction increases beyond the gravitational pull of the Earth, he's going to be pulled toward the flare.
The rest of the show, he was just absorbing some ambient solar energy produced by the sun about a hundred million miles away. When he's absorbing a massive amount of solar energy in the form of the solar flare which is much closer than the sun, it makes sense that he'd be drawn into it.
You can complain about the ridiculousness of his powers being so incredibly strong that he can apparently absorb and dissipate (or deflect, or whatever the hell happened) that massive amount of energy, but the electromagnetic attraction that pulled him into the solar flare does make sense.

I thought I read somewhere that if a 2nd season had happened, Luke would have returned. Described as a burst of energy exploding in the sky and suddenly Luke appearing from it and crashing into a field. As if he suddenly formed in the sky and dropped to the Earth. He is naked and ends up walking into a nearby neighborhood where he steals some clothes. He's also powerless. As if what he did caused him to lose his abilities. But that he would slowly regain them again. As usual I saw this as making the heroes weaker in order to tell a story. When a character is too powerful they can get out of any situation. That's what happened with Peter Petrelli.
shareHe sucked it up and died from it.
