Does it get better?

Just watched this show for the first time today. Watched the pilot episode on Hulu.

I thought I would enjoy it, but I didn't. I didn't think it was that funny, and I found the characters pretty unlikable. Not saying I hate it, but I thought it was pretty dumb. After reading a bunch of positive reviews, many people said they found the show relatable, and I think that was one of the main problems with me. I wasn't able to relate with the situations in the show.

I know that sometimes really good shows can have iffy, rough pilots. A show can get better after the first few episodes. I wouldn't like to waste anymore time trying to watch more episodes if the show stays the way it is. If that's the way it stays, please warn me.

The only part that I thought was cool was when the main character totally beat the potato out of that kid for calling him an offensive name, and then his parents stood up for him in the principal's office

I like the actress who plays the mother. She's very funny, has great timing and ends up stealing the show. The show should really revolve around her. The first two seasons are good, but then the show started becoming unrealistic and went downhhill so I stopped watching.

"unlikeable characters" = recommendation. Who the f*** wants to watch likeable people? Likeable people are good when it comes to hiring someone to do your taxes. Likeable people can help you choose a 401K. For entertainment, I want to watch nasty people raisin' hell.

It is a bit edgy as most of the Asian comedy shows have been. I have been enjoying up ... on Hulu, up to the middle of the second season so far. I don't like any kid on kid violence so that situation bothered me. I thought they could have done without that. Can't expect perfection from a TV show but it goes out hard to take the piss on American kids and families, and it is pretty much even-handed and funny. Eddy is just too obnoxious sometimes, and I find his obsession with black culture interesting and something I don't really understand. I have resolved to watch the whole series just to see what they think they are doing.

Louis's and Jessica's treatment of the workers in the restaurant is kind of irritating. If they showed a white character acting like that they would probably get cancelled, but the asymmetry is interesting to watch and think about.
