everyone is great except Eddie
He annoys the hell out of me
shareEddie is the only one in the family that acts American. Not always a good thing sadly, but lets be real. While I have a lot of respect for the Asian cultures, they can also be pretty lame and boring after awhile.
shareEddie isn't the only one in the family that acts American. The father, and the two youngest brothers are trying to fit into the country that they moved to, that's what they should do. It's one thing to honor one's culture at home, but, when out in public, it's always best to live like everyone in their adopted country, as the saying goes, "When in Rome...". Eddie is only doing that because he's sensitive about how Americans (and as he points out, white kids) see him, but, he's not being himself. The only one who hasn't become Americanized is the grandmother, who still speaks Chinese, but, that's not unusual, it's common with elderly immigrants to not adopt the ways of their host country.
shareyep, speaking as an ABC, there can be some tension. But, I prefer Emery's method rather than Eddie's more rebellious streak. In a way, the "stereotype" of Asians actually make me seem smarter than I really am !
