instead of making a show centered on racial differences, Selfie simply takes on pop culture that we can all relate to and populates it with diverse characters. No feeling the need to explain WHY there are Asian and Black people in your circle of friends; they just are.
shareThe show was a true melting pot. Comedian Nate Bargatze jokes that NYC is not a melting pot it's a bunch of different pots living next to each other. Blackish is different pots but in selfie everyone was in it together.
shareBlackish is also about a family of 6 whereas Selfie is about 2 people in the dating world.
I'm not saying that they couldn't have a mixed family in "Blackish" (the title might need to be reworked), but there is a difference in the style of show.
I think that both shows are delightfully different and entertaining. I embrace both of them :o)
shareWell, look at the shows on ABC. They are mostly centered around family.
Manhattan Love Story, Mixology, Selfie, and I am sure there are others. All cancelled. All centered around most in there 20's, early thirties in the dating world.
If you look at the bigger picture, in what survives on ABC and what is cancelled, that should tell you one thing.
ABC's demographic is 35-49. Not 18-49. They don't have and probably will never have a younger audience that understands the culture these shows portrayed.
Selfie was on the wrong network to begin with.
