What did you think of the finale?

The thirteenth and final episode is up for Hulu plus users right now. Of course it was written and filmed before they knew that ABC had cancelled the show, so Emily Kapnek, the creator, had to work with what she had to try to create some closure. But it's good that it was still kind of left open ended, so if Hulu, Netflix or another network decided to pick it up, they can.

There is general wailing and gnashing of teeth on Twitter today over this being the last ep..including from me. This show has a rabid following and Community was able to translate that into being saved by Yahoo Screen, so we can too!

If you would like to see this show continue, make sure to email, tweet, write, call Hulu, Netflix, and anybody else that you can think of, telling them to save the show! Do it over and over again. It can't hurt! And tell your friends to watch it too. Many people were doubtful because of the pilot or the name, and then have fallen in love/

There will be a mass tweet off tonight to Hulu, asking them to #SaveSelfie. Check out other strategies that we have going on here: Saveselfiemovement.wordpress.com

Depressing. I'd be okay with it being canceled only if it ended well--it didn't. For the love of pete just please bring this show back, it's great.

Just saw it.

Pretty disappointing finale. I guess it's a good thing they canned it since it seems like they would have prolonged them getting together for a long time and just put in random lessons each episode. Oh well, it was nice to see the whole season though.

The irony is just amazing. You decide that the takeaway message of the show is to use social media and even worse, a website dedicated to bring about change in the world, to save a freakin tv show?!?
I hope you succeed so that when season 2 airs you can all huddle up behind your tablets, tv's and laptops and judge the world over the fact that people are using social media for useless things and self gloryfication instead of doing something usefull with their lives.

You sound like fun.

Loved the finale, Karen Gillan truly is a wonderful actress. Hopefully they decide to bring this show back.

A bittersweet ending since it shows Henry finally realizing that he likes Eliza afterall and will "have no fear" and act on it soon, however we unfortunately will never see that happen.

:(

That's what imagination is for. 

I was afraid there would be a cliffhanger, but in a way I'm happy with how it ended even if it was open-ended.

Eliza finally embraced herself and started rediscovering who that is, rather than hiding behind a fake persona. Henry made peace with his fears and decided to go for what he really wants in life rather than playing it safe. Whether they do get together eventually or not is not actually that relevant. That was just a subplot.

Obviously they will because they've had so many moments (as shown in the final montage) that the "next time" that Henry is referring to is inevitable, but that's not the point. The point is that through their friendship they grew and became better happier people. That's a good ending to this short story don't you think?

Bittersweet is definitely the word. I put off watching the finale as long as I could stand it.

On the one hand we know Henry hasn't given up on the idea of a relationship with Eliza. On the other, we won't get to see what happens when Henry is, in his words, ready.

Ultimately I think not having them get together was best. It would have probably been too forced and too rushed. I was surprised at how far and how fast their relationship progressed in the first place. What happened in eps 5 & 6 I would have put near the end of the season, if not season 2.

Not sorry I stuck with the show. I just wish it was coming back.

And I adore John Cho.

I must internet, immediately!

I loved the finale and really the entire season. It kept getting better and the finale was really over the top in awesomeness. I do wish the show went on for another couple seasons, but what it was at least sort of completed itself. It's just a shame this couldn't have survived outside of the internet. It's easily better than any other sitcoms on the cable networks (better in terms of production, writing, acting... etc) and IMO better than most of the comedies is airing on the regular networks. It's just a shame ABC couldn't get behind this show and stick with it for a couple seasons.

To me, the finale was an overall let down due to no happy "closure" for fans of the 2 leads. In fact, if anything, Eliza's relationship with Freddie has grown even stronger than ever. It was weird how Eliza changed from being so in love with Henry and all teary-eyed and depressed just 3 - 4 episodes back to her current happy-go-lucky persona around him and not seeing him in a romantic light anymore. It felt a little implausible.

John Cho was en point as Henry and great as usual. Eliza looks better with glasses... reminds me of episode 2's hilarious book club meeting scene, her hair in plaits and those glasses she wore - she looked so adorable especially when she snorted in that dorky way after being caught by Bryn & gang.

It was also nice seeing Kevin again! The actor's amazing but wished he was given more lines.

"What time is sunrise?"
"When I open this door."

Yea it is kind of crazy to see her relationship with Freddie getting stronger after she had recently left him. But maybe she was just scared of it getting serious at first.
And yea she was falling hard for Henry but that was mostly because he was the only one to truly see her for herself and be there for her. He was her only true friend. But now she knows Freddie truly cares for her too. For the first half they were really just friends with benefits, he didn't seem that interested in her as a person but he developed too and has shown to care for her.

reply

I think deep down Eliza cared for Freddie and glad to see their relationship evolve,

Crappy unsatisfying finale tbh. The moment the show got canned the direction took a turn for the worse. Trying to appease the people who don't like and got the show canned isn't the way to save a show imo.

The whole Freddie getting back into the picture was the most boring and unoriginal storyline of the whole show. And they kept on going with it. Letting the two lead actors never get as close as the moment the show got the cancellation memo. It's pretty sad.

A poor way to end the show. The lesson wasn't really learned. Next time?! THERE IS NO NEXT TIME!!

reply

It's a pity that they ween't given a chance for the show to go on because, as is evident from the last episode, Eliza is developing as a person...and so is Henry.

It'd be nice if it did come back. Better be fast before the actors move on.
