How self indulgent can SNL get at this point?

SNL is the lamest, zero-chance taking, zero originality sketch show there is.

Colin Jost laughs at his own jokes. His own not funny jokes.

What is the point of SNL anymore? It was only good during the Phil Hartman years.
Even when Norm was on update , the sketches started to suck. Best SNL was when Kevin Nealon was on Update and Norm, Sandler, Farley, Spade, Myers, Carvey, Rock, and Farley were in sketches.

Most of the 80s SNL was lousy. The first season of SNL was full of filler. Weird Jim Henson adult puppet segments in every episode. Hit and miss guest stars. Just weird sketches that weren't funny. Once in a while Chevy Chase or Belushi might do something funny.

Akroyd and Jane sucked on Update. Around 1985 there are a couple absolute terrible seasons.
After 1995, when Katan starts doing his Mr Peepers sketches, it started to decline rapidly.

Then you have the JIMMY FALLON era. Laughing at all of his own jokes. God awful. The only thing funny was the occasional Hader or Forte. The show itself was garbage.

Now they constantly bring back BETTER CAST MEMBERS from OLD, bygone eras like Dana Carvey, Mia Rudolph, and Jim Carrey. Why? Because their cast sucks now. They don't have a cast with any talent anymore, so they have to trot out all their old stars.

You're the one still watching it.

It's been self indulgent for over a decade now. I feel like the point of return for this show is long gone.

You sure know a lot about SNL. You kept watching after it kept sucking? That's dedication. Or were you just hate watching to complain about it constantly?

I downloaded the old seasons of the 80s and 90s and watched them out of curiosity/boredem. Rather than watching some lame Netflix or Amazon series.

I've only really watched the seasons of 1988-1999.
I hardly watched anything after 2000. I couldn't tell you anything about those seasons.
