I'm a little disappointed with the lack of U2 here...maybe the film was set too early I dunno but still come on I can't think of any band greater or more famous from Ireland, let alone Dublin!

Why would there be U2 on the soundtrack when it was all New-wave/new romance music that inspired the band??

reply

You ever listen to Boy or October or War? New Wave, New Romance, Gothic....it's all post-punk alternative just like U2

Good point Jodie! Does U2 have to be in all things Irish.

U2's songs were almost never about getting the girl. The image they presented on stage was pretty much the opposite of "we're in this to get shagged." And their songs always had a strong spiritual bent. Lyrically, then, their songs have less than zero relevance to Conor and his bandmates. Including them would have shoehorning them in just because they were from Dublin.

Bono and the Edge, BTW, were sounding boards in the film's development stages and get thanked in the credits.

Prepare your minds for a new scale of physical, scientific values, gentlemen.

I love U2 though disagree. This movie was about the New Wave movement of music in the mid 80's.

U2 was not in the same category as say a Duran Duran.

They don't really fit the type of music being played here. It's centered on futurist pop and some new wave, not much rock.

reply

How about The Clash? They're not on the soundtrack, but I'm pretty sure I saw their name dropped on an ad for the film's release?

reply

You can hear The Clash's "I Fought The Law" in the movie, but it's not on the soundtrack listing. There's also the Duran Duran Rio's cover that's missing AND a very soft piano cover of A-Ha's "Take On Me", unfortunately.

It's never fun to hear music in the movie that's not on the soundtrack, especially when it's a special version not available anywhere else... :/

I would have LOVED to have had the DURAN DURAN cover by the Futurists on this! That was LOL funny though awkward in a lovable way!

I LOVE the soundtrack and bought the mp3 album download immediately after seeing the movie. I haven't been this crazy over a film soundtrack since Slumdog Millionaire!

You should also check out "Begin Again". It was awesome as well.
