Is this movie about an actual band from the 80's?

Boston and Philly love to slander us, but they don t have as many fans as us

I love this. "Write what you know." Carney is really nailing it in transferring his own life experiences into art, and I loved that "Sing Street" was so obviously about that very same subject. Such a great exploration of the creative process. I'm a musician and so many times during this movie, I recognized myself in the scene.

From what I have read, a lot of teenage guys formed bands to meet and impress girls. Cheaper than an expensive sports car.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

It appears to share some parallels with the origin story of U2 albeit set a decade later around a different music style. I wouldn't be surprised if their story influenced this I'm some way.
