I would place this film in the top three of the best coming-of-age films over the past several years including 'Boyhood' and 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower.' It reminded me of what it must have been like to be a teenager and see 'Footloose' in theaters for the first time. I really wish the marketing department would put more focus on it and I'm unsure why they aren't. The critics love it, every audience that I've seen it with really get into it. On a personal level, although I didn't grow up in the 80s, because it offered a lot of nostalgia with making home movies growing up and feeling out of place in my catholic high school for being an arts driven kid. I can definitely see it, like Carney's prior films, getting Academy Award recognition. Just really wish a lot more people find out about it because this is a mass appeal coming-of-age film.
