I would believe the answer is YES. And I'm guessing you didn't even see Sing Street!

Nope

Why did you not go to the " Begin Again" Boards then? Why come here and Bitc# , especially if you have not seen SS yet?

Coz he said all those things promoting SS not BA. And I'm not bitc*ing, just pointing out that it was good idea to promote his film this way. Any publicity is good publicity.

Sorry if I interpreted it negatively. Im sure he was asked a lot of questions at the PR Q&A , so it probably wasn't really planned out. I think the best publicity this film will get is by word of mouth. I have not seen any trailers for Sing Street and it seems to be in a very small release. It now shows up as only 140 theaters in the US on Moviefone. One of the most genuine & heart felt films ive seen in years and due to budgeting, it looks like very few people will get a chance to see it, in theaters anyway. Maybe by the time the DVD is out, it will get a bigger audience.

It is truly a shame, not to mention a waste, that such a special film like this will go unnoticed by the masses. I guess the old expression is true that mediocrity appears to the masses....

I read an earlier post that mentioned, in an attempt to facilitate word of mouth marketing, free tickets were available early on. Apparently there was next to nothing in the advertising/marketing budget. I don't remember seeing anything on television but only in the Coming Attractions in the theater. I don't normally care about box office results, however I was rooting for this film and it did appear to have "legs". It just wasn't visible enough.

In addition, upon reflection, I was wondering the composition of the ideal target audience. I can't envision it was ever too wide. Although it's youthful I don't see the typical youth would be motivated to see this quirky, non cookie cutter film/story.

We'll see how it does on PPV and Cable. I think it will flourish. let's hope!

I've got to say that I've never found Knightley convincing as an actress. She has certain facial idiosyncrasies that I find always surface in every performance. Carney seems to prefer naturalness and maybe that's why he didn't care for what she did. To me she has a tendency to be somewhat mannered in her acting style.

I think Sing Street is a wonderful film. I'd recommend seeing it if you haven't.

What did he say?

There was no reason for Carney to apologize, but that's the stuck up, and status hungry fake world of Hollywood... he stated some honest thoughts of working with Keira, and everyone had a tantrum, cos he didn't step in line basically. So now he's a villian... it's utterly stupid. The fact is she he felt she had so many people around her at all times, that getting work done was difficult. They make it sound like he called her absolute sh*t... such idiots... the whole industry lacks honesty and he just had the backbone to speak the truth.
