Loved the first half, lost it in the second.

Overall I enjoyed the movie but it definitely abandons the reasonably gritty realistic start for an overly polished fairytale ending.

The band end up too good, it all works out just a little TOO well.
Feels like an extended Vamps video come the end.

The Commitments never makes any of these errors.

If this is a kids movie then I get it, if it's an adults movie then i don't.

I couldn't agree more. It only works as a kids movie but then it has sexual abuse and anti-religious subtexts that deny that as well. A real screenplay mess, actually.

I respectfully disagree. The mixture of harsh reality and turmoil of the first half and the hopeful, almost to the point of fantasy happiness of the ending and moments scattered throughout the film is what makes it such a brilliant film, in my opinion.

Like Raphina's quote about love, the film is happy-sad. It's a mixture of deep sadness and undying hope. I think the fairy tale aspects work, as they simply represent Cosmo's hope for a better life.

There is another reason to fill your heart with hatred.

But isn't that what teenagers do? They live in a fantasy world half the time. It think it was as it should have been. When you were a teenager, how did you escape from the everyday and the mundane?
Is life always so gritty? It depends on your circumstances.
