Does anyone have a theory on what Brendan was a no-show at Conor's gig? Was it just laziness?
You'd think after being such an influence on the band's musical direction that he'd want to go see them play. Also he told Conor he'd play a solo. This isn't a criticism of the film, I'm honestly just curious to know what others think.
Given his mental issues, I'm not sure how proficient his brother actually was with the guitar and how much was in his head. He seemed to be a loving but troubled soul. In addition, given the fact that his brother was taking giant steps just leaving the house to sit on the front steps, I think it would have been too much of a leap to find himself front and center under the spotlight before a gymnasium of strangers.

Good explanation, thank you! You're right, he was making baby steps and this may have been too big of a step for him. I was pleased when he gave Conor some song lyrics he'd written. I wanted so badly for Brendan to be happy and regain his confidence!
DEFINITELY my favourite film of 2016, hands down! Moonlight was beautiful as well. So glad people are still making entertaining, original movies.
