The Irish have so much soul...

....in all of their art and music, so I expected so much. Especially when I saw the movie was taking place in the mid-80's. And on top of all that, the glowing reviews.

God, this music in this movie SUCKED. The actors/ actress were good and so was the story. The problem was the music, and it made up such a majority of the film. Way to take the least interesting aspect of the 80's (Duran Duran and their ilk) and try to make them into musical visionaries. The music was TERRIBLE. This coming from the land that produced Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy, the Pogues, old U2, etc. Even the fake movie band the Commitments had soul.

I would rather sit through a "blockbuster", which I know is artificial, then a movie like this that tries to tie in music to be poignant, soulful and a coming of age film.

What next? A movie about the "passion" of modern popular country music?

Actually , the focus was on the videos of Duran Duran at the beginning during the family gathering. The video style is what inspired Conor to start a band. the Cure, Genesis , The Clash, M, and the other 80s tunes were small bits in the film to go with the original music.
Given the ratings of all the critics and viewers out there, you seem to be the minority in how you feel about the music choices.

The music was brilliant you tin eared slob. It was nominated for a Golden Globe and will be nominated for an Oscar....

This would probably be the same idiot who thinks Taylor Swift and Beyonce are musical geniuses because they won Grammy's in 2016. He probably also thinks Bob Dylan deserved many a Grammy in the 90's and was rightfully ignored in the 60's.
Awards and critics reward the worst music, not the best. This was the Irish version of "High School Musical".

Also, their was nothing evident of the Clash, The Smiths the Cure or Joy Division in their music. Lip service was all that was.
