Some time ago I made a thread on the Top Gun 2 board questioning whether that film, featuring a very knackered looking Cruise, would finish him as a top table star.
Since then he's done nothing but an upteenth sequel to the MI franchise and doesn't really appear to have anything else on the cards.
Therefore will this film represent the last non Tom Cruise vehicle film he ever appears in?
I've thought before that Tom Cruise will keep doing action movies with lots of stunts that he does himself, for as long as he can do them. His current project of The Gauntlet remake is no exception.
He's a superb actor, I don't know why it's always stated as fact that he's some 'Zoolander' type actor with one pose, or one way of delivering a line. I think people are mistaking his timing for someone who does the same thing over and over, as he does do pauses and head turns, but those are done for both dramatic reasons and comedic timing.
Anyway, perhaps when the physical risks become too great, we will see more just dramatic roles from him like we've seen when he was much younger.
Cruise is that very rare actor who truly dedicates himself to his work. Whether it's a sequel or not, he completely throws himself into it and makes sure that everyone else on the film is doing the same.
