Louise and Max
Am I the only one who really, really wanted Max and Louise to get it on?
shareMee too. I was really hoping for it because it's not like she would be doing anything wrong. Her husband is a cheater. She derserved a little something. But sadly he left. I have a feeling that he'll be back though

Oh I hope he comes back!
Pretty sure I spotted Max in the promo for the finale!!
shareNot really. I didn't really care one way or another about Max. He was boring and they didn't have much chemistry. Their union seemed forced and...boring. I read all these comments about how she deserved Max because Alan is such a scumbag, but I feel like Louise is such a strong lady and deserves something more. Maybe Alan will reform. Or maybe she'll get something better. Obviously, history shows what happened but I'm not a Louise/Max shipper.
shareAs the finale noted, Alan and Louise stayed together to the end, over 50 years, and died within weeks of one-another. So many of the other couples broke up, so I guess she really loved him.

I loathed the Max character for multipe reasons. I'm a bit too lazy to write everything down again so here is a link to a thread where we discussed the problems with him and his highly questionable function on the show:

I did!!! They had a lot of chemistry and I wanted them to kiss and get it on so bad!!! I thought that was where they were headed! Damn!
shareNo you're not alone! I'm shipping them too. How could you not? Her husband is neglectful & unfaithful and then you have Max not-so-secretly admiring her.
They have great chemistry!
It feels wrong because historically this never happened but for the sake of good drama I hope they explore this romance a little more!

Louise grew up in Pennsylvania on the Dupont Estate, where her father was the groundskeeper. She was NOT a Navy Brat nor the daughter of an Admiral.

Sorry, I got Louise mixed up with Jo Schirra. However, as the source book details (pp. 125-127) Louise translated her boarding school background into being a very proper Navy wife. She was very big on the proper etiquette and appearances of that role.
