direct to video or theaters

Statham has had a few flops of late. Will he join Seagal,Jcvd,Dolph,And Wesley on the DVD racks?

January 22 lands on a Friday next year. As long as that date holds it should get at least a limited theatrical release.

@Dustbowler Wait, it's got a release in January? That's where the studios dump their bad action movies. Not a good sign.

The release date has been changed since I made that post. It was first bumped to April of this year and is now scheduled to hit theaters in late August. Late August really isn't prime release time for movies either. Hopefully this will be the exception.

Fast and Furious 7 will be Stathams comeback! I don't think he'll go into Seagal territory because he's a much better actor than him and does the majority of his own stunts!

Furious 7 really bombed didn't it?

reply

I'm guessing a limited theatrical with a simultaneous VOD release.

reply

The combination of Fast/Furious and his comedic turn in Spy could help revitalize Statham's career. Otherwise, he's headed to direct to VOD land.

Furious 7 bombed?? It's made well over a billion dollars.

The budget is reportedly $40 million....so I would imagine the studio would want to release it theatrically in hopes of getting that money back. DVD sales aren't what they used to be and the limited release/VOD format typically works best with smaller films.
