I thought the original The Mechanic (1972) with Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent was superior to the remake with Jason Statham and Ben Foster.
The plot was better, it made more sense, had a better back story for the characters.
I like Jason Statham and Ben Foster, but the plots of some of their movies or their characters can be stupid.
When Jason Statham did Parker, which was based on a character created by Donald E. Westlake (Richard Stark), they made Parker into thief with a code of professional ethics.
Parker's ethics were ridiculous. And it almost ruined the movie for me. I've read all the Parker novels (there are 24 of them), and I doubt the screenwriters read any of the original novels.
Or if they did, they changed Parker from a cold-blooded, calculating criminal, to a thief with a heart of gold.
