3 Reasons why The Mechanic > Resurrection
1. Jessica Alba's character - Don't get me wrong, I think she is absolutely gorgeous and is enjoyable in romantic comedies, but her character added no value to Bishop. Donald Sutherland's son in The Mechanic is a great example of adding substance to the protagonist. As beautiful as Alba is, she really is better on TV, than on the big screen.
2. Contrived Conflicts - It felt like the scenes in Resurrection were stitched together, rather than flowing like in The Mechanic. Put Bishop in situation "x". Ok, put Bishop in situation "y". Ok, put Bishop in situation "z". without much thoughtful connection.
3. Watered-down Bishop - Shame on me for calling out Alba's character. Shame on the editor for stitching action scenes together. But shame on the director for reducing the intrigue and mojo from Bishop, which made him so good in The Mechanic. No need to make him a romantic, who becomes a face to face talker with everyone. Let him continue to pay for prostitutes, talk work remotely, and keep him untrusting of everyone.
