thought i would try and explain what this means, the trivia is pretty vague. Basically the ancient Polynesian navigators would use the feel of the waves hitting their boats to reference their location while at sea. They would use the waves, the location of the sun, sea and bird life and many other markers to help them navigate the vast pacific ocean. Remember they did not use compasses or sextons anything electronic, it was basically nature.
Reading waves by feel was obviously a very skilled technique and would take years to master. With males obviously their most sensitive parts being their testicles they would sit in the middle of the boat so they could feel the slightest taps against the boat. Just by feel they could tell if they were North/South/West/East, they could tell what speed they were travelling at and also with other markers how far/long it would take to get to their destinations. Ancient Polynesians had incredibly advanced sailing techniques and thankfully the technique are still being taught to Polynesian people today.
