So we see Moana growing up from a baby to a perhaps 8 year old young girl who still has a very deep love and interest in the ocean.. which displeases her father. ( Little Moana looks so cute in an headdress btw) as Moana grows she is being trained to be a new leader in her fathers place.. We cut to a scene where Moana is running still 8 years old or so and she is running to the see the fishermen pushing off into the sea.. a place she isn't allowed to go. Pua her pet pig is with her... She rushes through her village and people were saying hello.. and she runs into her father Tui. He asked where she was off to and she stammers and he says you were going to the water again.. she says yes but she was looking for him.. under the heavy pressure of her fathers glare she crumbles and admits that she was going to the ocean because its never the same.. Tui pulls her back towards the village and Sina is walking towards them as he is trying to teach Moana about how everything they need is right here on the island. He shows her the coconut tree and tells her that every part of it can be used and he asks her how many uses she can think of that they use in their village.... she spouts off some uses... her mother helps her with some uses of the coconut tree and tickles her with a leaf from the tree.
the chief leaves when a villager calls for him..
Moana catches a glimpse of Grandma Tala heading towards the beach.. They glance at each other and grandma Tala motions for Moana to follow her..
Moana followed grandma Tala down to the lagoon which is beautiful, grandma Tala was in the water by the time Moana reached her.
Moana is invited into the water by her grandmother and Moana joins.. She asks her about the undertow and if she can feel it.. its like the ocean wants to play grandma said...
Moana asked her grandma if the ocean plays with her and she smiles and says to her that she knows what the village thinks of her and what they say... shes the crazy village lady.. she tells Moana that once you find something that makes you happy its becomes part of who you are and she doesn't resist it.
We see the two of them playing in the water... ( the bond between Tala and Moana is so beautiful, it reminds me of the bond I have with my gran)
Later as the sunsets Moana sits talking to her grandma, and her grandma sits on a coconut tree branch.. She makes a note of it and she and her grandma have a talk about what her destiny was and how it was ok to listen to her father and heed his advice but sometimes the wrong advice can lead you away from your destiny ..
We see Moana grow more into a 16 year old young girl..
walking down to the lagoon she saw a conch shell and leaned forward trying to get a beter look when her father yells her name and she knows she is busted..
Tui walks with Moana up a large mountain and there we see a pile of rocks. The rocks were that of every village chief who came before her.. he explains to her that her path is to follow all the past leaders of her village.. He tells her that she will one day add her stone to the same mountain.. They exchange some more words and on the way down from the mountain Moana makes her decision to be exactly what her people need her to be and to avoid the ocean ...
Moana wakes up
Chief Tui Moanas father tells her that today she will be helping the council and leading it....
Moanas mother helps her get ready and she keeps being distracted by the ocean.
Her mother kisses her forehead and tells her she will do well and adds a headdress to her.
Moana and her family attended the council where we have some hei hei antics and some battle axe fun.
I cant remember all the questions asked but there was a question someone asked about Hei Hei.. that he is so dim minded that wouldn't it be better to put him out of his misery.. Moana smiles and says she is fond of hei hei and that sometimes a persons strengths lie beneath.. in the case of hei hei way beneath.
More people ask questions such as there are crops dying and what should they do.
Moana responds with lets try moving the crops to another part of the island that could sustain the crops.
Than came the fishermen of the village who explained that there were no fish in the harbor, or anywhere else around the island... Moana exhaust her options of what to do and proposes that they should venture out past the reef and find more fish... Tui quickly says no and Moana more persistent pushes the issue.. The chief explodes in anger and tells her that she only wants to do this because she cant give up her obsession with the sea... Moana rushes away and goes to the beach where she uses her oar to smack coconuts like hockey puck... angry and upset she vents about how she doesn't want to go to the sea for herself and that her father is wrong...
Her mother Sina comes up to her and Moana vents further that her father is wrong and that she is nothing like him...
Sina explains that Moana is exactly like him.. and that there is one tale that Moana doesn't know... the tale of the Tui and his brother... Sina explains that it was a beautiful day and Tui and his brother were out on the sea and all of a sudden the sea turned dark and Tui did everything to try and make it to shore.. but his brother was lost and from that moment forward Tui blamed himself for his brothers life being lost and forbid anyone from leaving the island again..
Sina caressed her daughters face and told her that's why her father is how he is now and that he couldn't bare to loose her to the sea as well.
Moana sat thinking about everything her mom said and she watched as the fishermen looked around. She got a canoe and took Pua out on the ocean with her and started looking for fish beyond the reef when a large wave knocked her and Pua over and destroyed the canoe.
Grandma Tala saw everything as Moana made her way to shore... She and grandma Tala talk and she takes her to a cave where she discovers he destiny... she lights the torch, beats the drum and a tapestry comes to life and we get my second favorite song.. we know the way....
Moana learns that her people were voyagers who sailed from one island to another , charting stars in the sky.... suddenly Moana snaps out of it and rushes out to tell grandma tala what she has learned....
Moana rushes to tell her father the news and when she does he gets pissed off and tells her that he is going to destroy the boats like he should have years ago... Moana pleads with him but a villager rushes to them the chief and tells him his something has happened to his mother... Moana and Tui enter the hut and its very sad and heart breaking that she is dying... Tala tells Moana to remember everything.. to go .. and as commotion goes on Moana slips out of the hut and goes through the cave and sets out on a canoe... as she goes out on the sea the green stone her grandmother gave her begins to fade out and she knows her grandma just passed away... a blue steam of light flows through the ocean and a manta ray guides moana on her way...
(oh her grandma has a manta ray tattooed on her.) that's what she wants to come back as after she passes away.
